Thank you so much families for the amazing support of assisting and guiding your child to complete homework daily. For the last two weeks Kindergarten has had an introduction to homework including writing his/her name 3 times daily and completing 2-3 lessons in our Singapore Math Activity Book. As we enter week 5 of school we will now begin our routine homework.
Every Monday (or Tuesday) your child will receive a newsletter with a listing of our Singapore Math Activity pages. For example, the homework for the week of September 4-7, students will be asked to complete Lessons 2.2 and 2.3. These activity book pages can be completed any day of the week but all pages are due on Friday, September 7. Phonograms: Please have your child practice and review the phonograms listed on the newsletter. For next week, please review o, c, a, d, g, f, s, qu, b, e, h, i. These phonograms should be pulled from your deck of phonograms and practiced. Then, continue to pull the new cards every day. On Tuesday, add u to your deck, j,k on Wednesday, l on Thursday, and m,n on Friday. Your child will be tested on the taught phonograms every other week during our bi-weekly assessments. The directions for practicing the phonogram cards is located at the bottom of the newsletter. Writing Phonograms: Please have your child practice writing their phonograms for 10 minutes daily on the provided paper. Next week includes the phonograms a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h. The top line provides a dot of where to begin the phonogram and the second line is to practice independently. All of the phonograms should be completed by Friday. Please encourage your child to use Spalding grip and say the phonogram sound as they are writing the phonogram. Reminders:

Thank you families for attending our Curriculum Night. It was a pleasure seeing so many parents, presenting our Core Curriculum, and answering many wonderful and insightful questions. If you were unable to attend, please contact your child's teacher for a copy of the handouts given to families.
One of the frequently asked questions was regarding fingerprinting for volunteering in our classrooms and school. We will be having our Finger Printing event on Tuesday, September 18 from 8-10am. Our school is asking for a $20.00 donation and your fingerprints we be valid for three years. If you are unable to attend this event you may also go to Great Hearts Human Resources Department to be fingerprinted. Parents were discussing obtaining fingerprint clearance through the Department of Public Safety however, Great Hearts Academies WILL NOT accept this fingerprint card. Your fingerprints must be taken through either Great Hearts Human Resources or our Fingerprint event in order to volunteer in the classroom, quarter parties, and field trips. We look forward to having all of you as our volunteers throughout the year. Reminders:

Our Kindergartners have demonstrated a tremendous amount of growth within a very short time. We are learning our Spalding phonograms, forming phonograms using Spalding grip, matching objects in Singapore Math, and learning the meaning of our Core Virtues. Today our scholars experienced our first fire drill. All scholars did an amazing job following our fire drill procedures including walking in straight quiet lines, voices off for the entire fire drill, and not screaming when the initial sound of the alarm roars above them.
Our Kindergartners are also demonstrating our Virtue of Responsibility by walking to their classroom each morning upon entering our building. Beginning Monday, August 20th scholars will be walking to their classrooms independently but with the guidance and direction of staff members. Teachers will no longer be holding hands with a Kindergartner and walking them directly to his/her classroom. Instead teachers will be positioned strategically along the walking path to continue guiding and ensuring that each child reaches his/her classroom. Also, Teacher Assistants will be standing at the classroom doorways to guide and welcome each scholar into our classrooms. Thank you in advance for all your support and encouragement as we implement this new procedure on Monday. Spalding homework will begin Tuesday, September 4th however, we have decided to send home math homework beginning Monday, August 20th. Scholars will be given a homework assignment sheet detailing their assignments. Each child will continue to practice his/her name three times daily along with completing a lesson in his/her Singapore Activity Book. Please return all homework daily so it may be checked in for completion. Our scholars are very excited to have homework! Reminders:

Reminders: Red folders: Please return daily to school. Also, please remove items on the stay home side daily. Consumable books: Over the next two weeks we will be sending home with your child a list of missing materials including Singapore Textbooks and Activity books, Spalding Pink Notebooks, and Literature books. The book deposit paid to ATE is for textbooks used in the classroom each year. Each year your scholar will be expected to purchase additional materials including, literature books, Spalding materials, and Singapore books along with school supplies. Water Bottles: Please send a water bottle with your child daily. Water bottles should be filled with water only, please no juice or sports drinks. No peanut products: We have many scholars with peanut allergies so please do not send items with peanuts, peanut butter, or nuts. Uniforms: Please refer to the Student Handbook and this week's Athenian Echo for proper uniform attire. The dress code violations we are noticing most often include shoes, socks, and belts. Shoes must be athletic shoes and all black or all white. Socks must be above the ankle and not below or at the ankle. Pants and shorts must have a belt. We know this can be a difficult task in Kindergarten. There are velcro and magnetic belts for those who struggle with buckling a belt. Pick Up: 11:25 for Half Day Kindergarten 2:50 for Full Day Kindergarten with no older siblings at our school. 3:10 for Full Day Kindergarten with siblings at our school only. Reminders:
