Every scholar in our classroom has demonstrated what a super scholar looks like, sounds like, and most importantly, what it means. Our scholars demonstrated our core virtues of Citizenship, Friendship, and Wisdom during our grade level field trip to Rocker 7 Farms. Our scholars walked hand in hand, listened to our presenters, demonstrated respect for all, and shared their knowledge of farm life as they explored and enjoyed the amazing farm. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers! An event such as this would not be possible without your time and support.
Our scholars demonstrated our core virtues of Courage, Perseverance, and Honesty as we dove into our first week of reading groups. Scholars showed a lot of courage embarking on a new journey of reading independently. Some adjustments will be made next week within reading groups. Currently, every child has one book in their book bag. Next week, some children will come home possibly with flash cards, writing notebooks, and/or 2 books. Please be patient as I work diligently to assess what each child needs in order to be successful and confident. I do not want a child to reach frustration with reading. My goal is to adjust and scaffold reading instruction so each child feels successful and discovers a love for reading within. Next week I will send home individual letters/instructions in your child's reading book bag. The letters will not be placed in their bags until Tuesday or Wednesday after I've been given a couple to days to instruct and meet with groups. Spalding updates: Next week's spelling words will include markings so you may check your child's work with the correct markings. The word a is underlined and is rule 4 because "a may say it's name when there is nothing after it". However, I have always taught my students to say "u" when reading it. For example, a bug would be "u bug". I have been modeling saying both "a" and "u" when reading the word a. I'm finding it difficult to even change my habit but, you may choose with your child how to say it but regardless, we will write it with an underline and apply Rule 4. We will begin reciting our Poem Singing Time Tuesday. Please continue to practice with your child! Math Activity Book A will be sent home as a part of homework for next week. Please review the newsletter for pages to complete and return activity book on Friday with homework packet. Since we have not sent home the activity book yet this year, for additional practice your child may work on any lesson from 1.1 - 3.5. This is not a requirement just extra practice if needed or desired. Wish List:

sIt was a true pleasure meeting with every family to discuss your child's growth in Kindergarten during quarter one. I enjoyed conversing with each family and being able to share stories and highlight some of your child's experiences in our classroom! The amount of commitment, involvement, and caring of your child's education has been absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, throughout my experience as an educator, I have not always experienced the participation I am able to be apprised of this year. I thank you for helping your child with homework, reading each night, asking questions, and being eager to be involved in any way. Your child cannot be successful without you and either can I!!!
Reading groups will officially begin on Monday! If you would like to volunteer please be on the look out for a sign up from our wonderful classroom coordinator, Mrs. Schroeder. Reading groups are from 7:55 - 8:25. You must have you finger prints on file to work with children in the classroom and no siblings are allowed during this reading time. I am looking forward to all the growth your child will make as they begin to read! Our field trip will be Tuesday, October 25th to Rocker 7 Family Farm. It will be a wonderful opportunity to have your child learn about seeds, farm animals, sunflowers, pumpkins, honeybees, and corn. Again, you must be finger printed to attend our field trip and siblings are not allowed. Hopefully, all volunteers will be able to ride the bus along with your child. If you are unable to attend the field trip don't fret, there will be another one this year and we promise to give more ample notice. The phonograms we are continuing to practice daily in class are the first 1-26, sh, th, ow, ou, ee, and ar. Please continue to practice daily! We began our Pink Spalding notebook this week are we wrote the words: me, do, and, go. Ask your child what Rule 4 means for the words me and go! Answer: A vowel may say it's name at the end of the syllable when there's nothing after it. Wish List:
Our Specials Schedule: Monday: PE Tuesday: Art Wednesday: Enrichment Thursday: Music Friday: PE I am incredibly impressed and overwhelmed by the growth all of our scholars have made both academically and socially during our first quarter of Kindergarten. I am looking forward to meeting with each of our scholars' families to share successes, academic growth, and individual accomplishments. Most families have already signed up for a conference time with me but, if not, there are still spots open to meet. You can access the sign up through the email I previously sent or through the Archway Trivium East website under conferences. I will be meeting with families in the school library, one door down from our classroom, since our classroom is used for Athenaeum after school.
Have a wonderful Fall break!!! Enjoy the time with your families! Many have shared with me exciting plans of camping, going to another state, or staying around town. Have fun spending time with your family, relaxing, and enjoying the cooler weather. I look forward to seeing all of our Kindergarten scholars on Monday, October 17th. Reminders:
